Rocky coastline and calm sea at dusk, Anafi

Destinations · Anafi

Remote, Unhurried and Rare.

East of Santorini lies one of the quietest islands in the Cyclades. We work with owners on Anafi who are planning for the long term.

Anafi

Some islands are visited. Anafi is sought out.

The island

Small Scale.
Strong Identity.

Anafi sits to the east of Santorini, close enough to share a horizon yet very different in character. It is a small island with a modest population, limited infrastructure and a pace of life shaped by its remoteness.

The Chora, the island’s main village, rises on the hillside above the harbour, white and compact. Beyond it, the landscape is rugged and largely undeveloped, with beaches and walking routes that reward those who make the journey.

Anafi attracts travellers who are deliberately looking for distance from the busier islands. They come for quiet, for nature and for a sense of discovery. That makes the island a particular proposition for owners: smaller in scale, but with a clarity of appeal that is increasingly hard to find.

Owner considerations

The Opportunity
and the Reality.

Running a property on Anafi calls for clear expectations on both sides.

The opportunity

Distinctiveness

Properties on Anafi can offer something many destinations cannot: genuine seclusion. Positioned well, that can appeal to a loyal, discerning guest.

  • Clear, authentic proposition
  • Guests seeking quiet and nature
  • Potential for strong direct relationships
  • Room for thoughtful, small-scale design

The reality

Constraints

Remoteness brings practical challenges that must be planned for from the start, rather than discovered during the season.

  • Limited infrastructure and services
  • Access dependent on sea connections
  • Fewer local suppliers and contractors
  • A short season and a small labour pool

How we help

Practical Support
for a Remote Island.

Any work we undertake on Anafi is shaped around what the island can realistically support.

Its proximity to Santorini, where NERION is based, is helpful. Much of what we do can be delivered without a permanent presence on the island, particularly digital growth, revenue management and the selection of sensible technology that works on limited connectivity and small teams. Site visits and planned time on the island at the start and peak of the season cover the rest.

For owners and investors considering a new property, early pre-opening thinking is especially valuable here. Decisions about scale, staffing, supply and guest experience are best made before construction, not after.

We also recognise that the qualities which make Anafi appealing are fragile. Growth that is too quick, or design that ignores the island’s character, would erode the very thing guests travel for. Our advice will always favour a scale and an operating model that the island, its people and its infrastructure can sustain, and a guest experience that feels at home there.

Getting started

How We Begin.

For an island like Anafi, we believe in starting with understanding rather than assumptions.

  1. Listen

We learn about the property, the owner's intentions and the practical realities on the ground, from water and power to staffing and supply.

  2. Assess

We look honestly at the property's position, its guest, its digital presence and its distribution, and at what the island can realistically support.

  3. Recommend

We propose a focused scope, often beginning with digital and commercial support, and are clear about what we can and cannot deliver on the island.
